CITY-WIDE MUSIC CELEBRATION FEATURES SOUNDS OF BROADWAY

(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -Coming off an all-star weekend spotlighted by a surprise performance by Bruce Springsteen, the Asbury Park Musical Heritage Steering Committee now looks to celebrate the American musical with the "Sounds of Broadway" weekend.

On April 9 and 10, in conjunction with the New Harmonies exhibit currently on display at the Asbury Park Library, the sounds of Broadway, caberet and opera will be celebrated with live performances of Celebrate Broadway by The Premier Theatre Company.  Happening at the Paramount Theatre, Celebrate Broadway will highlight the memorable greats of American music from stage, film and beyond.  An educational lecture and book signing also is planned for April 10.

Events for the Asbury Park Musical Heritage's coming two weekends include:

April 9 - 10:  Broadway, Cabaret and Opera
April 9 - Celebrate Broadway Concert at the Paramount Theatre, 8:00 p.m.
April 10 - Lecture, Jazz Legends of Asbury Park & Madonna Carter-Jackson book signing at St. Augustine's Church, 3:00 p.m.
April 10 - Celebrate Broadway Concert at the Paramount Theatre, 2:00 p.m.

April 15-17: Big Band Weekend
April 16 - "A Moonlight Dinner Dance" at Tim McLoone's Supper Club, 6:00 p.m.

Following New Harmonies, The Asbury Park Musical Heritage Steering Committee will use momentum from the national exhibition to launch "Asbury Park:  Where Music Lives," a year-long celebration of music.    Live performances, lectures, rock-and-roll music tours, film, educational programming, book signings and more will help celebrate Asbury Park and the important role music has played throughout the city's history.

New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music is free and open to the public seven days a week through April 17.  It is part of Museum on Main Street, a unique collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES), state humanities councils across the nation, and local host institutions.
