TWISTED COVERS GIVE COVER TUNES A NEW MEANING THIS SUNDAY

(BELMAR, NJ) -- Despite being an area with tons of talented musicians, the Jersey Shore is known as a haven for cover bands. That premise will be turned on its head on Sunday, January 26 when Twisted Covers brings its "Locals Covering Locals" show to the Belmar Arts Council. Featuring over 15 artists, the show will shine a spotlight on some of the best songwriters in the area and collect food for the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

The lineup of performers includes Michael Brett, Deirdre Forrest, Thomas Johnston, Jim Crawford, Eric Ginsberg, Elaine Orzechowski, Art Servilla, Jim Mill, Mikey B, Cook Smith, Anton Daub, The Wag, Mark Linskey, Gregory W. Irish, and a few special guests. Gary Wien, a music journalist who founded the series several years ago, will host the event with music beginning at 3pm. Admission is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations and/or monetary donations for the Food Bank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties.

"Twisted Covers was a monthly show a few years ago at the Twisted Tree Cafe in Asbury Park," explained Gary Wien. "The idea is pretty simple -- each month we would choose an artist and invite musicians to cover their favorite songs by that artist. We ran through shows covering artists like The Who, The Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, The Replacements, Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, and everything in between. One of our most popular shows was called 'locals covering locals' where we had artists basically cover their friends and the local artists that inspire them. It turned out to be so much fun that we've brought it back several times as a benefit for local organizations. This time around we're collecting food and raising money for the Food Bank, which is a great cause - especially during the winter."

The show is a great opportunity to hear songs by some of the best local songwriters, including George Wirth, Michael Brett, Bobby Strange, Laura Crisci, Bruce Tunkel, and Don Lee. To see a list of the songs scheduled, visit http://www.TwistedCovers.com

"The first time we held a 'Locals Covering Locals' show I was pretty nervous," recalled Wien. "I remember thinking it would either be a pure train wreck or something truly amazing. Thankfully, it was the latter. Most of all, it's just a great day of music! It's fun seeing original artists who rarely perform covers, covering artists from the area."

The Belmar Arts Council is located at 608 River Road in Belmar, NJ. For more information visit http://www.belmararts.org/.
