Monmouth County Arts Council Announces "Imagine" - 2011 Teen Arts Festival

(Red Bank, NJ) The Monmouth County Arts Council announces the 2011 Teen Arts Festival, for Thursday March 17 & Friday March 18, 2011 on the campus of Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, New Jersey.  An exciting and unique event, the annual Festival is produced in collaboration with Brookdale Community College, and is an exceptional experience for emerging teen artists of all disciplines to come together in a creative atmosphere of workshops, evaluations and fun.

An opening reception for students, parents and the public will be held on Wednesday March 16, from 6:00-7:30 pm in the Gallery of the Center for Visual Arts. A special focus at the reception will be the juried exhibition in CVA Gallery that highlights over 65 pieces of art work inspired by "Imagine", the anti-war song written by John Lennon. He believed that artists should be social activists; students were encouraged to express their ideas of the theme.  During the reception, several teen artists from Wall High School will present musical performances.

At the Festival, talented teens from across the county have an opportunity to participate in workshops, performances, exhibits, and critiques in an open nurturing atmosphere while exploring Brookdale Community College's impressive facilities. This year, almost thirty schools are attending the Festival, with 1700 plus students, across the entire campus. Thirty-five professional artists and teaching artists will present workshops and master classes in their individual specialties, such as painting, filmmaking, voice, piano, theater, and, as evaluators, will offer positive critical feedback to the emerging teen artists.  Many students report that their interactions with the artists are most beneficial and provide invaluable insight to their growth as artists.

The reception is free and open to the public. For further information, call the MCAC office at 732-212-1890 or contact Sandy Taylor, MCAC Art Education Director, at sbt@monmoutharts.org.
