(Newton, NJ) -- The Newton Theatre's second
anniversary as a performing arts venue will be celebrated with a live
performance by comedian and Saturday Night Live alum Jim Breuer on
Saturday, September 7th. Those attending the show should plan to arrive
early to enjoy a piece of Anniversary cake and participate in the
festivities.
The historic Newton Theatre, located at 234
Spring Street in Newton, NJ, was founded in 1924. For most of its
history it was operated as a movie theater. Two years ago new co-owners,
Jonathan Peirce and Paul Larena, fully renovated it into a 605 seat
capacity live performing arts center. In September 2011 The Newton
Theatre opened it's doors for a sold-out performance by Todd Rundgren!
Since
then the theatre has been rocked by bands such as Blues Traveler, the
Gin Blossoms, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, the Bacon Brothers, Graham Parker,
the Winery Dogs, Kansas, and the Wallflowers. Many other memorable
artists have graced the stage including Judy Collins, Joan Osborne,
Christopher Cross, Richard Marx and Lyle Lovett. Various other types of
shows have included comedy, the Irish Rovers and school and family
events.
The Newton Theatre continues to book new and diverse acts
like the upcoming world renowned psychic Sylvia Browne, the funk / soul
/ rock band Robert Randolph and the Family Band, The Celtic Tenors, up
and coming country star Sarah Darling, the return of Southern rock
greats the Marshall Tucker Band and the Outlaws, top comedians like
Paula Poundstone and Ralphie May, a fun family show with The Pop Ups,
the greatest big band of all time The Glenn Miller Orchestra and a
celebration of the 100th birthday of the acclaimed Woody Guthrie by his
son, legendary folk singer Arlo Guthrie.
In celebration of these
past performances and in anticipation of the exciting future ahead the
Newton Theatre's anniversary fete with Jim Breuer will be an awesome
night out for those who attend. Cake, ticket giveaways and other
surprises will be in store before the show begins.
With over 20
years of stand-up comedy experience, Jim Breuer remains one of today's
top entertainers and continues to win over audiences with his
off-the-wall humor and lovable personality. Named one of Comedy
Central's "100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time," Breuer is one of the
