(LAKEWOOD, NJ) -- If you're not one of the lucky few to get tickets for this Saturday's "Songwriters By The Sea" show at the Strand Theater, you'll be able to hear it live on The Penguin's online radio station. The show on May 7th features intimate performances by Glen Burtnik, Marah, Christine Martucci, Joe D'Urso, Joe Rapolla, Rick Barry, Melissa Chill, Anthony D'Amato, and Bill Valenti. The Penguin will stream the entire night on http://www.ThePenguinRocks.com from 8:00pm until its completion.
This will be the second live concert broadcast from the Strand on The Penguin. On April 17, the online station aired the debut of "Live at the Strand Theater (Volume 1)" featuring Rachel Zamstein, Sikamor Rooney, and Anjelia Pelay. According to posts on Facebook, listeners ranged from those in the tri-state area to as far away as Australia!
"The Penguin is proud to have the opportunity to present this show live on the Internet," said Gary Wien, owner of ThePenguinRocks.com. "It allows music fans anywhere in the world to take part in the experience."
This special edition of "Songwriters By The Sea" is presented as part of The Strand's "Backstage Pass" series where the audience actually sits on stage with the performers looking out into the theatre. Due to space limitations, the show is limited to just 145 seats and usually sells out, meaning the live broadcast may provide the very last remaining seats.
Some of the best songwriters from the tri-state area will be performing on Saturday from the Jersey Shore legend Glen Burtnik to Philadelphia's own Marah to New York's Joe D'Urso. Hosted by D'Urso and Joe Rapolla, the series has consistently highlighted both national acts as well as wonderful up-and-coming artists - a tradition that continues on Saturday.
"Three of the artists - Christine Martucci, Rick Barry, and Anthony D'Amato are not only artists that The Penguin have been playing for years, but all three have records featured in my upcoming book: ‘Are You Listening?’ which details my list of the top 100 records of the past decade by New Jersey artists," said Wien.
"We love what Gary does, both editorially and with his very innovative online radio station. He's been a consistent supporter, and promoter of Jersey Shore area music, and new music in general", says co-host Joe Rapolla.
General admission for the show is $25 while tickets are available. The online broadcast is available for free at http://www.ThePenguinRocks.com -- simply go to the website and click on your music player (iTunes, WinAmp, Windows Media Player, or RealPlayer) to launch the stream.
The Strand Theater is located at 400 Clifton Avenue in Lakewood, New Jersey.
