A Salute to John Williams with New Jersey Symphony Orchestra

(New Brunswick, NJ) -- New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and State Theatre present A Salute to John Williams with New Jersey Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 3pm. Led by Conductor Gerald Steichen, the orchestra will perform songs from Oscar® and Golden Globe®-winning composer John Williams. A $7 off per ticket discount is available for this performance. Composer John Williams has written the soundtracks for some of the most defining films of the last 50 years. It takes only a few notes to recognize the themes from Jaws, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Schindler's List. The program will include these selections and more, like Superman, Memoirs of a Geisha, and The Cowboys.

New Jersey Symphony Orchestra

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (NJSO), now in its 88th season, comprises some of the country's finest musicians. The Orchestra is proud to have Jacques Lacombe as its Music Director Designate and Neeme Järvi as its Conductor Laureate.

The NJSO engages audiences throughout the state, providing more than 250 performances each year. To best serve the people of New Jersey, the orchestra brings its programs to seven different venues throughout the state. Summer parks performances and special events round out each season. The Orchestra offers wide-ranging educational programs, reaching students in all 21 New Jersey counties with a variety of programs from ensemble performances via its Resources for Education and Community Harmony (REACH) program to its full orchestral concert tours for schoolchildren. The NJSO sponsors a tuition-free Youth Orchestra program in the Newark area, and it promotes violin lessons in public schools with its renowned Early Strings Program.

The NJSO brings the symphonic-music experience to more than 250,000 people each year and reaches thousands more through radio broadcasts. Select NJSO performances are broadcast regionally and throughout North America.


Gerald Steichen

With a career that ranges from symphony to opera, Broadway to chamber music, conductor Gerald Steichen has established himself as one of America's most versatile musicians. He serves as Music Director of the Ridgefield (Connecticut) Symphony, Principal Pops Conductor of the Utah Symphony and Associate Conductor of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. He has conducted the Boston Pops, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Symphony and Oklahoma City Philharmonic. Internationally, Steichen has led the NDR, NRK, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestras.

For New York City Opera, Steichen has led La bohème, The Elixir of Love, The Mikado, Dead Man Walking and The Little Prince. He has appeared with the New Jersey Opera Theatre and the Utah, Glimmerglass, Anchorage, and Yale Operas. He serves as Artistic Director of Opera East Texas.


John Williams

Oscar® and Golden Globe® winner John Williams has written the soundtracks for some of the most defining films of the last 50 years. Composing the scores for nearly 80 films, Williams has won five Academy Awards, 17 Grammy® Awards, and three Golden Globes®, and two Emmy® Awards. Williams is also a noted conductor, having led The Boston Pops, London Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony, and the San Francisco Symphony. In 2000, he was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame.
