Gary Lucas Pays Tribute To Jeff Buckley On March 18
(BROOKLYN, NY) -- The late singer/songwriter/guitarist Jeff Buckley will be paid tribute in a charity event being curated by his friend, collaborator and Gods & Monsters band-mate Gary Lucas. The event is being held at the Knitting Factory Brooklyn Friday March 18th in association with the Estate of Jeff Buckley benefiting the Road Recovery Foundation (founded by Buckley's tour manager, Gene Bowen).
This event will feature performers from around the world (who are paying their own expenses to participate): Cuban recording star Haydee Milanes (daughter of Buene Vista Social Club composer Pablo Milanes), Portuguese “Pop Idol” finalist Diana Silveira, and Italian singer/songwriter Alessio Franchini, among others; Gary Lucas will be accompanying these three on guitar. Jeff's beloved New York City will also be represented by Jeffrey Lewis, Jann Klose, Marianne Nowottny, Fay Victor, Felice Rosser and Faith, John Kruth, Mossa Bildner, and more tba.
Lucas met Jeff Buckley soon after the latter moved to New York in the early 90's and Jeff joined Gary's Gods & Monsters as vocalist. Several of the songs the pair wrote together during this period would be recorded -- with Lucas on guitar -- and released by Jeff on his double platinum debut album Grace which was recently named one of the "Top 10 Albums of the 90's" by Rolling Stone.
Gary Lucas is interviewed in the latest Jeff Buckley International Newsletter about the upcoming tribute:
