Chester Theatre Group hosting a Concert Production of New Musical: Nightmare Alley

(CHESTER, NJ) -- The Chester Theatre Group at the Black River Playhouse will present a special Concert Production of a new musical in development "Nightmare Alley," by noted composer and local resident Jonathan Brielle.  The Chester Theatre Group is particularly pleased to provide the Black River Playhouse as a venue at this level of development for "Nightmare Alley" prior to its New York concert run.

West End star Jeremiah James will play Stanton Carlisle, the conniving carny mentalist turned clairvoyant preacher for 4 performances at The Chester Theatre Group March 25th to 27th, prior to its New York concert run. James (Billy Bigelow- Carousel London Revival) will appear with James DePaiva (Max Holden, One Life To Live) Dominique Plaisant (The Wild Party; The Vampire Lestat), Joseph Dellger (Ragtime, Lestat); Zonya Love (The Color Purple) and Nikki Switzer (The 25th Annual Spelling Bee) and newcomer Ashley Kate Adams as the innocent electrocution girl seduced in this dark tale.

The musical, based on the novel by William Lindsay Gresham, subsequently became the film noir classic starring Tyrone Power and Joan Blondell, had its world premiere at the Geffen Playhouse last spring and is continuing its development with Steven Landau (Deaf West's Big River; Titanic) as musical director and pianist.

Author/Composer Jon Brielle spent years working closely with the late Mrs. Gresham as well as Geffen Artistic Director, Gil Cates, to develop the musical beyond its original carny story into a tale of fate versus free will. Utilizing Gresham's device of a Tarot Card heading each chapter, the musical now further explores our choices and restores some of the original plot points not developed for the Geffen Production in this new concert production.

As a resident of Tewksbury, Brielle chose The Chester Theater Group to launch the musical's next development in support of the great local theater before he hits the road again. To hear music selections go to: http://jonathanbrielle.com/nightmare_2.html

The four performance dates are; Friday March 25 at 8pm, Saturday March 26 at 2pm and 8pm, Sunday March 27 at 2pm.
