This is part of the history of who we are as Americans. Andrea Thome has written a very personal, specific play about the story of one Latino family in America, but one that also captures the universal experience of growing up and staking claim to a new story."

AN UNPREDICTABLE EVENING WITH TODD RUNDGREN
(Newton, NJ) -- Todd Rundgren, who
performed to a sold out house at the grand opening of the newly
renovated Newton Theatre in September 2011, will make a triumphant
return on Saturday, March 22nd at 8:00 pm.
Todd Rundgren is a prolific songwriter, instrumentalist and rock n' roll maverick. He is a pioneer in electronic music, prog rock and music video. His 1972 album Something/Anything was certified gold. His best known songs are classic rock and pop gems including I Saw the Light, Hello It's Me, Can We Still Be Friends, and the novelty Bang on the Drum All Day.
He has released many albums as a solo artist and with his band Utopia. During the 1970s and 80s Rundgren produced or engineered acclaimed albums for other acts as diverse as Badfinger, The Band, Grand Funk Railroad, Meat Loaf, the New York Dolls and XTC.
Given such an extensive catalog, it's not surprising that there's a vast variety of styles within Rundgren's music. Therefore, more often than not, the singles from each record do not offer an accurate indication of what the remainder of the album sounds like. Such an approach has great appeal for his ferociously dedicated fans.
Tickets for an Unpredictable Evening with Todd Rundgren are $64.00 for Premium seating, $54.00 for the Orchestra and $44.00 for the Balcony. Purchase tickets by visiting www.thenewtontheatre.com or contact the Box Office at 973-383-3700.
The historic Newton Theatre, located at 234 Spring Street in Newton, NJ, was founded in 1924. Revitalized and fully renovated, Sussex County's premier entertainment venue reopened in 2011 as a 605 seat capacity live performing arts center. With it's rich history and diverse programming The Newton Theatre is essential to the buoyancy of New Jersey's Skylands region. More information about The Newton Theatre may be found by calling 973-383-3700 or by visiting its website at www.TheNewtonTheatre.com .

NORTHFIELD BANK FOUNDATION TO FUND TWO PLAYWRITING RESIDENCIES IN RAHWAY
(UNION, NJ) -- Premiere Stages, the
professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, is excited
to announce two new playwriting residencies in Rahway. Funding from the
Northfield Bank Foundation has enabled Premiere Stages to return to
Rahway 7th and 8th Grade Academy for an eight week in-school playwriting
residency in 2014. The foundation will also fund a second residency
with 6th grade students at Rahway's Roosevelt Elementary School.
Premiere Stages residencies are specifically designed to support classroom learning objectives and are designed to support the Common Core Curriculum, reinforcing literacy skills, encouraging creativity and collaboration, and bolstering student self-esteem. Professional teaching artists work closely with classroom teachers to specifically tailor each residency to the needs of the students. The upcoming 7th grade residency will align with the Literary Arts class studying Agatha Christie's masterful whodunit, And Then There Were None, while the 6th grade program at Roosevelt will center on the social studies unit studying Ancient Egypt. Over the course of seven weeks, students will learn the basics of playwriting and collaborate to write original short works for the stage. Both residencies will culminate in late March with an in-school presentation of student-written work by a cast of professional actors.
"We are thrilled that the Northfield Bank Foundation is sponsoring our return to Rahway," said Premiere Stages Producing Associate Clare Drobot. "Increased funding will afford Premiere the opportunity to place teaching artists in multiple schools, expanding the pool of students served through the project."
The residencies are just one facet of Premieres larger educational initiative, known as the Play Factory. Play Factory programming also includes the New Jersey Young Playwrights Festival, a statewide contest in partnership with Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey that showcases the work of New Jersey students ages 8 and up, and the Play Factory Performance Series, an annual summer performance series featuring dynamic, professional theatre presentations designed specifically for young audiences.
Premiere Stages is made possible in part through funding from The New Jersey State Council on the Arts, The Shubert Foundation, The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, The Northfield Bank Foundation, The New Jersey Historical Commission, The Provident Bank Foundation, The Hudson City Savings Bank Foundation, Union County HEART Grants, The Hyde and Watson Foundation, The Union Foundation, E.J. Grassmann Trust, The New Jersey Theatre Alliance and through the generous support of individual patrons. Discover Jersey Arts is our marketing partner. Visit www.JerseyArts.com for more information about other arts programming happening around the Garden State.
Premiere Stages offers affordable prices, air-conditioned facilities and free parking close to the theatre. Premiere Stages also provides free or discounted tickets to patrons with disabilities. All Premiere Stages facilities are fully accessible spaces, and companion seating is available for patrons with disabilities. Assistive listening devices and large print programs are available at all times; publications in alternate formats are available with advanced notice. Please call (908) 737-4092 for a list of sign-interpreted, audio-described or open-captioned performances. For more information, visit Premiere Stages online at www.kean.edu/premierestages.

80'S ROCKERS THE PSYCHEDELIC FURS COMING TO THE NEWTON THEATRE
(Newton, NJ) -- 80's New Wave Rockers The
Psychedelic Furs will perform at the Newton Theatre on Thursday, April
10th, 2014. The Psychedelic Furs, led by vocalist and songwriter Richard
Butler, and his bass-wielding brother Tim, won over fans and critics
alike by combining poetic lyrics, innovative rhythms and melodies driven
by an aggressive, punk desperation. The band scored major hits with
Love My Way, Pretty In Pink, Heaven, The Ghost In You, and Heartbreak
Beat and released seven studio albums, spawning several compilations, a
boxed set, and a live concert DVD.
The Furs debut, a self-titled album from 1980, quickly established the band at radio in Europe and was a top 20 hit in the UK. The album also found success in Germany, Italy, France, Spain, New Zealand and Australia.
The Furs found success in the US with their next release, 1981's Talk Talk Talk, which saw the band making its debut on the US album charts. In the UK, the album charted the original version of Pretty in Pink, which served as inspiration for the 1986 John Hughes film of the same name, and was re-recorded for the film's platinum-selling soundtrack.
In 1982, the Furs recorded Forever Now, with producer Todd Rundgren in Woodstock, New York. This album included hit Love My Way. The Furs' 1984 release Mirror Moves featured the songs Heaven and smash hit The Ghost in You.
By the mid-80s, the band had become a staple on both U.S. college and modern rock radio stations. Simultaneously, they were experiencing consistent mainstream success, placing several singles in the pop charts on both sides of the Atlantic.
Their album Midnight to Midnight, featured the single Heartbreak Beat, which became the Psychedelic Furs biggest Top 40 hit. The album also featured drummer Paul Garisto and sax player Mars Williams, both of whom continue to tour with the band.
The band went on extended hiatus in the early 1990s. After spending most of the decade apart, the Butlers reignited The Psychedelic Furs in 2000, and released a live album Beautiful Chaos: Greatest Hits Live. Since then, lead singer Richard Butler has released an eponymous solo album produced by Jon Carin, and has hinted at the possibility of a new Psychedelic Furs album.
Currently, the band continues to tour around the world. The Psychedelic Furs touring lineup remains Richard Butler (vocals), Tim Butler (bass), Rich Good (guitar), Mars Williams (saxophone), Amanda Kramer (keyboards), and Paul Garisto (drums).
Tickets for the Psychedelic Furs are $44.00 for Premium seating, $39.00 for the Orchestra and $34.00 for the Balcony. Purchase tickets by visiting www.thenewtontheatre.com or contact the Box Office at 973-383-3700.

Southsides first three albums, I Dont Want To Go Home, This Time Its for Real, and Hearts of Stone, were produced by band co-founder Steven Van Zandt (E Street Band, The Sopranos), and largely featured songs written by Van Zandt and/or Springsteen. The Van Zandt-written I Dont Want To Go Home" became Southsides signature song, an evocative mixture of horn-based melodic riffs and sentimental lyrics.

In O'Hara's staging, River City will be an African-American town, based on historical accounts of black communities established by former slaves across the United States, including in Iowa, after the Civil War. BEARDS: THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT AT THE MORRIS MUSEUM
(Morristown, NJ) This November, an
exhibition that is sure to "grow" your appreciation of facial hair opens
at the Morris Museum. Beards: The Long and Short of It will be on view
from November 23, 2013 through March 30, 2014.
Featuring more than 100 objects, Beards: The Long and Short of It will explore men's facial hair trends throughout history. Through artwork and artifacts, this engaging exhibition will take visitors back in time to investigate the tools of the trade and consider the cultural meanings associated with different facial hair trends.
Originated by the Morris Museum, the exhibition will include photographs by contemporary artists Matt Rainwaters and Greg Anderson. Rainwaters, an artist based in Austin, Texas, created portraits of hirsute men during the 2009 World Beard and Moustache Championship. He says of his experience, "there was an odd mixture of competition and camaraderie: these men had grown and cultivated their facial hair to excess for most of their lives and they were fiercely committed to the art of grooming."
Working in a similar fashion, Greg Anderson, a commercial artist based in Las Vegas, captured the portraits of competitors in this year's championship competition. Using a medium-format camera, a few lights and a simple backdrop, he depicted the personalities of these dedicated beard-wearers in technically pristine photos.
Special Program
In association with the exhibition, the Morris Museum is offering special programming for visitors. For more information, please email programs@morrismuseum.org or call 973.371.3706.

(Newton, NJ) -- James Van Praagh, New York
TImes Best-Selling Author, Talk Show Host, Television Producer, and
World Renowned Spiritual Medium, will appear at the Newton Theatre on
Friday, April 11th, 2014.
Internationally renowned #1 New York Times Best Selling Author of Talking to Heaven, Reaching to Heaven, Healing Grief, Heaven and Earth, and others; James is considered a pioneer in the mediumship movement throughout the world, and has been recognized as one of the most accurate spiritual mediums working today. His messages have brought solace, peace and spiritual insights, changing millions view of both life and death. He has received many awards for dedicating himself to changing the consciousness of the planet. A guest on mostly every national radio and television show including Oprah, Larry King Live, Dr. Phil, A & E's Biography, Nightline, Unsolved Mysteries, The View, The Today Show, and many more.
He has also been a very successful producer including the most viewed mini-series in network history, Living with the Dead, starring Ted Danson portraying James in a biography of his life. He also produced The Dead Will Tell, starring Eva Longoria. Most recently, he developed, co-created and produced one of the most successful series seen on a Friday night, Ghost Whisperer starring Jennifer Love Hewitt. It is currently seen in over four hundred markets around the world and has launched a worldwide interest in the phenomenon of ghost-hunting.
During his career, his reputation and profession have seen him work with International Heads of State, religious world leaders and entertainment celebrities such as Cher, Goldie Hawn, Shirley Maclaine, Ellen DeGeneres, Joan Rivers, Katie Couric, Loretta Lynn, Chelsea Handler, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Wesley Snipes, and many more. He is famous for bringing through evidential details from many famous deceased personalities like Marilyn Monroe, Rock Hudson, Frank Sinatra, Roy Orbison, Lucille Ball, Andrew Carnegie, Liberace, Princess Diana, Michael Jackson, Johnny Carson, Ghandi, Edgar Cayce, Benjamin Franklin and even Abraham Lincoln. This proves the standard and the versatility of his abilities.
Van Praagh was born in Bayside, New York. As a child, he remembers having a tremendous fascination with cemeteries and death. Wanting to serve God, entered a pre-seminary at the age of fourteen. One day as he was in prayer, he heard a spirit voice whisper very clearly in his ear: God is much bigger than these four walls; you must leave and find God outside in the world." It was at that moment, that his interest in organized religion ended, and his journey of spirituality began.
Graduating from public high school, he continued to pursue his studies and later graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Broadcasting and Communications. After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles where he became involved in metaphysics and psychic phenomena.
At age 24, Van Praagh was invited to attend a session with a medium. At the time he had no idea of exactly what a medium was; he was understandably dubious when the medium informed him, that he would become the voice of the Spirit World within two years. "My first reaction was, I have enough trouble dealing with the living; why do I want to talk to the dead?"
After the session with the medium Van Praagh began a regular regiment of daily meditation; the more he meditated the more sensitive he became and eventually was able to "see" colors around people and know instinctively their emotional and physical state of mind. As Van Praagh's sensitivity increased, he began doing psychic readings for friends. During these readings, he began receiving detailed messages from the beyond. Though at first this seemed bizarre, the more he learned, the more he could not deny the fact that the medium's prediction given two years earlier had indeed come true. He now was able to clearly pierce the veil separating the two worlds of life. Today, Van Praagh is recognized as one of the most notable and influential Mediums in the world.
Van Praagh spends his days traveling the world, teaching mediumship development classes, hosting cruises to spiritual destinations, and conducting sold-out seminars. He takes pride in having built a web site that encourages spiritual learning, grief support and friendships through its many online communities, resources and activities. "The books, live stream events, seminars, classes, web site, social media outlets and television projects are ways to share my abilities and the message that there is no such thing as death, it is merely an illusion, and everyone survives death!
Tickets for James Van Praagh are $69.00 for Premium seating, $59.00 for the Orchestra and $49.00 for the Balcony. Tickets for this performance will go on sale on Friday, November 8th at 11:00 am. Purchase tickets by visiting www.thenewtontheatre.com or contact the Box Office at 973-383-3700.

KATHY MATTEA "CALLING ME HOME" AT THE NEWTON THEATRE
(Newton, NJ) -- Grammy award-winner Kathy Mattea will perform at the Newton Theatre on Sunday, March 30th, 2014.
APPALACHIAN: of a wild and beautiful mountain land, a genre of distinctly American music, and for many, the deep roots of family. For Kathy Mattea, it also represents an essential piece of her musical education and heritage.
Calling Me Home is Kathy's new release on Sugar Hill Records, co-produced with multi-Grammy-winner Gary Paczosa. It's a collection of songs that celebrates the Appalachian culture of her native West Virginia, and expands the vocabulary of acoustic roots music that has always served as her artistic center.
Kathy has gathered songs and stories of bravery, pride and grief that further define and describe the life and times of her home place. 2008's Grammy nominated COAL was her first step to discovering this vast and rich genre of music that producer Marty Stuart allowed was "in her blood," taking her back to the lore of family stories and to her place and her people.
Kathy's concerts present her new and most recent material alongside her Top 20 radio hits, from the signature ballad Where've You Been? to the bluesy 455 Rocket to the iconic Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses. Long known as an impeccable songcatcher, her 17 albums are woven through with bluegrass, gospel, and Celtic influences, and have garnered multiple CMA, ACM, and Grammy Awards.
Increasingly in demand as a public speaker, Kathy regularly presents keynotes and educational programs at colleges and civic venues across the country, both as a stand-alone and in conjunction with concert appearances. Her long history of activism has led Kathy to bring public attention to several current environmental issues, including climate change and some mining practices in her native Appalachia.
Tickets for Kathy Mattea are $44.00 for Premium seating, $39.00 for the Orchestra and $34.00 for the Balcony. Tickets for this performance will go on sale on Friday, November 8th at 11:00 am. Purchase tickets by visiting www.thenewtontheatre.com or contact the Box Office at 973-383-3700.
